Hot Property in Cambridgeshire Soaring Housing Market

The detached brick building, in Rampton Road, Longstanton, features a red up-andover door, with peeling paint, and outside security lamp.

It sits in 0.1 acres of land, a prime site for development, despite not having any planning permission.

The sale is being handled by estate agents Ellis and Co, which claims there has been a lot of interest and the owner has already received offers in excess of the guide price.

The garage sale has sparked fresh debate over property prices in the Cambridge area, which are soaring out of control.

Longstanton councillor Alex Riley said: "I can't believe anyone would pay that amount of money for a garage and a plot of land without planning consent.

"I don't think it's a reflection on the housing market in Longstanton but it's a very interesting reflection on the housing market in the Cambridge region."

The advert for the site reads:

"Ellis and Co have pleasure in offering for sale a fantastic opportunity to acquire a plot of land, 0.1 acres, in the popular village of Longstanton.

"The plot is currently occupied by a good size detached brick-built garage with access from rear."

Daniel Sumner from Ellis and Co said with planning permission the land would be worth even more.

He said: "There is no planning permission on the property at all. It‘s never been applied for. The seller does't want to apply for planning permission, he wants to sell and pass the risk on to someone else.

"If it had planning permission it would be worth a lot more, you'd probably be looking at more like £,000.

"The owner has had offers well in excess of £60,000. You could put maybe a threebedroom semi-detached property on there."
